Neapolitan Leather Capodimonte Tea/Coffee Service Box

This is a stunning and very rare, tooled leather over wood presentation box, a small trunk with brass hardware and green silk satin lining. It would have originally held a small porcelain tea or coffee set service for two people for travel. A small tray would have resided in the liid the cushion insert separating them.

I do not know how old it is, but the style of the leather stamping and tooling looks like it's from around 1800. It matches old books I have from that period. It might be earlier or a bit later. It came from a grand estate sale in the USA, the original contents were nowhere to be found. No key, but the two hooks can keep it closed if necessary.

Handwritten label on bottom reads: "Servizio a caffè per 2. Capodimonte." (Coffee service for 2 Capodimonte.) ...with list.

Condition: The original leather is stable and almost completely intact. its a little more cracked in the rear side. Some losses to the bottom side edges. The bottom hand-printed paper is very worn. The green silk satin is in wonderful, with no shredding. One side ribbon needs reattaching. The leather was dry and I have carefully applied leather conditioner since the photos, so its slightly darker and the gold tooling looks great. There is a small smear of old white paint on the left side corner that I did not want to risk damaging the leather by removing.

Dimensions: 6 inches high x 16 inches wide x 10 3/4 inches long (15.2 cm, 40.6 cm, 27.3 cm). Almost 2.5 kg.
